Representing the 12th generation of vignerons, the energetic Anne Parent and her sister, Catherine Fages-Parent, now run this domaine in Pommard. History buffs will be interested to know that it was one Etienne Parent who pioneered the exportation of Burgundy to the United States as early as 1787, due to his close relationship with soon to be President Thomas Jefferson!
The spring of 2011 was a hot one, speeding up the vegetative cycle, but after a wet July and mid-August, things were back on a normal schedule. Anne was happy with the surviving fruit, citing their phenolic maturity. Parent describes her 2011’s as being more robust than her 2007’s. She went on to say that many 2011’s will be drunk young because, “They’re delicious.”
The 2011 Pommard Argillières has deep, earthy aromas of cassis and plum. The palate shows a rich, ripe, and earthy middle with noticebly ripe tannins. The finish is complex and all in line. Drink 2019-2038.
