The family that owned Château de Fieuzal in the mid to late 1800’s were friends with Pope Leo XIII, the last Pope of the 19th Century. This resulted in healthy stocks of the wine in the Vatican’s cellars. But that was history; fast forward to today. Hubert de Buoard (Ch. Angelus, among others) has consulted at de Fieuzal since the 2006 vintage, and with Stehpen Carrier taking over winemaking duties
in 2007, the château has regained its status as one of Pessac- Leognan’s prominent producers. Their 2014 is a subtle, nuanced offering, showing pleasant red and black berry fruit aromas with a cedar-like note. The palate is medium-bodied with well-integrated oak and fine tannins. It could stand a few more years in the cellar before hitting its optimal drinking window, but we won’t blame anyone who enjoys it today.
