With the long, balmy days of summer upon us, the sound of a full-bodied, tannic, red wine is not quite as appealing as it may sound during the other seasons. Here comes Cru Beaujolais to the rescue! The 2014 Pierre Savoye Côte du Py Morgon Tradition just may be the ideal summertime red. One of the 10 Crus (or growths) of Beaujolais, Morgon has a sweet spot, the Côte du Py, and that’s where this baby comes from. 100% Gamay Noir, it’s light-bodied, with aromas of pleasantly sour cherries and forest floor. The palate is bright and fresh, and the finish is light and free of any sticky tannins. Wines made from Gamay may be enjoyed with a slight chill (we recommend 30-60 minutes in the fridge), especially in the summer. So don’t let the warm weather keep you from enjoying your red wine, and enjoy some Cru Beaujolais today! It’s great for picnics and barbecues.
