Our Viré-Clessé producer, Jean-Marie Chaland farms around 8 hectares of vines, in clay upon limestone soils, most of which are between 50 and 100 years old! 2017 was an excellent vintage for white Burgundy, with healthy ripe fruit and nervy acidity levels. This fancy Mâcon cuvée is very representative of Chaland’s pursuit of terroir transparency, as he uses zero new oak for this one. Farming organic for over a decade, Jean-Marie’s wines are pure, fresh, and expressive.
This 2017 shows aromas of ripe, fleshy white fruit with a tinge of citrus. The palate is well balanced as the acidity lifts that fruit up, leading to a mineral-driven finish.
