The folks at Torre Zambra are friends of our primo Barolo producer, Tiziana Settimo of Aurelio Settimo. Thanks to her recommendation that we check out her friends in Abruzzo who needed an importer, we got our hands on some samples and were totally wowed. Absolutely no question on this one from any staff member at TWH, we all agreed - let's start importing these wines asap!
The picturesque hills of Villamagna, with their clay and limestone soils, are blessed with a unique microclimate, with both sea and mountain influences. Beyond that, the winemaking is serious. Native yeasts, a combination of cement tank and tonneau aging, dedicated farming. Gorgeous fresh whites, an irresistable quasi-rosato Cerasuolo, and a series of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo that range from intensely slurpable to gloriusly complex. Bravo!
